Time: Tuesday, 9:45 -13:00
Room: 6.05, 6th floor, Keplerstr. 11
Start: April 9, 2019
Bachelor- und Masterentwurf
A goal of the design studio is to design and fabricate small-scale reconfigurable
pavilion from biocomposite elements. This will be achieved throughout lectures, material learning, and experiments. The pavilion will consist of supporting arches and flexible roofing stretched by mobile soft robots that will be reconfigured according to environmental conditions and/or social interactions (weather, people, etc.).
In the first phase, the students will come with their own ideas and geometrical
designs how the purposed pavilion can be configured. In the second phase, the best design will be chosen and students will be divided into organized groups according to needed tasks including robot design, structure design, roof design etc. The semester will end with 1:1 realization of pavilion covering an area approximately 10 m2.
By the end of the course, students will get a new perspective on how architecture can be more dynamic and interactive with an environment and/or users. This design studio will extend student’s material knowledge, software and hardware skills including fabrication technologies knowledge. This course will take place in collaboration with IFB (Institute of Aircraft Design), Faculty 06: aerospace Engineering and Geodesy at the University of Stuttgart in coordination with Dr. Stefan Carosella.
