At the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, at the Department of Biobased Materials and Materials Cycles in Architecture (BioMat) at the Institute for Building Structures and Structural Design of the University of Stuttgart, the following position is to be filled as of 1 October 2019:

1 Research Associate (TV-L E13), 50% “Research and Administration”

In the working area “Architecture- Materials- Form-finding- Digital Fabrication”, Research projects management and third-party projects applications

The aim of the BioMat department is to combine design, sustainable material development, form-finding, fabrication, biomimetics and intelligent systems in architecture. Teaching, research, form generation, material development and production as well as industrial projects are highly networked. BioMat offers architecture students and industry partners the opportunity to participate in current research projects within the framework of sustainable and intelligent building systems.

Research fields at BioMat: Sustainability, Bio-based Materials, Design, Form-finding, Fabrication, Biomimetics, smart materials, fiber-reinforced composites, product design and multifunctional building systems.

The position includes participation and management of current and future research projects in the area of ​​material development and (digital) fabrication, design, form-finding, biomimetics, intelligent materials. The ability to apply for third-party projects is highly requested. The work also consists of teaching and research. Earning the doctorate degree within the employment time is highly encouraged.

– The applicant is required to be an architect or civil engineer (diploma or master’s degree) with the qualification to lead, manage and apply for third-party financed scientific and industrial research projects in the fields of design, form generation, new building materials, intelligent and multifunctional building systems and (digital) fabrication techniques.

– Teaching skills for bachelor and master students at the university (Architecture/Civil-Engineering).

– Very good knowledge in architectural programs ex. CAD / CAM, Rhino + grasshopper / Kangaroo or similar are required.

– Fluent German and English (in writing and speaking)

– High management Skills in research projects
– Interest in cross-disciplinary collaboration
– Full commitment
